Grow Tents

All of our grow tents come from the top two nanufacturers – Global Hydro’s BudBox and Secret Jardin. Both acknowledged as leaders in the field of home hydroponics.

Why use a Grow Tent?

All plants need certain conditions in order to survive. They need the right growing conditions, soil and nutrients of course and they also need the right climatic conditions – particularly if they are to do well and produce high yields. A properly designed and constructed grow tent will help to provide these conditions. When growing outdoors a green house is often used to improve the climate that the plant is growing in—glass allows light and heat in and at the same time protects plants from the extremes of the weather. There are a number of advantages—the growing season can be extended or by providing additional heat and possibly light, sub tropical, even tropical, conditions can be provided so that exotic plants can be grown even far North or South of the equator!

Taking the greenhouse concept a stage further, a properly equipped grow room means that plants can be grown without any natural heat or light and they can be grown almost anywhere!

Now, a full grow room is simply not an option for most people. Converting a spare room or basement is a major undertaking and it will take a lot of thought and effort. A DIY grow tent is a possible option for those with the right skills and ability, but as with most DIY projects it is likely to take longer and cost considerably more than originally anticipated.

A purpose built grow tent on the other hand will provide a very quick solution at an affordable price. It will have essential features built in. For example, to maximise the amount of light available to the plants it will have a reflective inner surface. At the same time it will be light proof – you dont want to be looking at a 600 watt lamp every time you walk past!

A grow tent will have provision for other fixtures and fittings such as extraction fans and carbon filters etc. It will also have a frame strong enough to carry extra items as well as cable and duct entry and exit ports.Example of a Extra Large BudBox available from FluidsensorOnline.com

The surfaces will be able to withstand the humidity and be suitable for wiping down – it is important to keep the grow tent clean to keep pests and disease at bay.

Another important feature is that a grow tent can be dismantled as easily as it is erected – it is easily stored or carried.

When buying a grow tent, be sure to buy good quality! It is well worth paying a little more – there is plenty of cheap stuff around and as with many things “You get what you pay for”

A good quality grow tent will last for years and is a worthwhile investment and a must for indoor growers.BudBox grow tents available to buy from FluidsensorOnline.com

Exciting new range of Grow Tents from Secret Jardin

I’ve just had word that Secret Jardin are introducing a new improved range of Grow tents, including some surprising new addition to the family!
I’ll get some of  the new specs out of the way first :-

  • Two year extended warranty!!
  • All tents bar coded with a serial number (At last, hopefully this can curb some of these shabby eBay fakes at the silly prices we keep seeing.)
  • Secret Jardin Mylar Logo on Genuine products (See..!!)
  • Improved zips (I thought the previous were reasonable if you took care of them, these must be amazing?!)
  • Many darkRoom features now in the dark Street
  • darkRoom Street now made with Mylar!
  • Thicker mylar on darkRoom
  • New over engineered corner pieces on darkRoom

The most exciting news for a lot of you are the additions to the range – These appear to be the “darkRoom Twin” and the “darkRoom Propogator”.

The darkRoom Twin lloks to be a darkRoom designed for use with Cool shades, that also includes a small seedling tent engineered to fit directly on top as a separate unit…all very interesting stuff!
Last but not least is a 90x60x60cm propogation tent along with racking and trays. I imagine this could be used as a drying unit too. Inspection windows look to be included as well as the same Secret Jardin build quality you would expect.

As soon as I have more information on this lot I’ll keep you posted!

Instructions for Secret Jardin Grow Tents – Part 2

In part 1 we showed you the first half of the instructions for a Secret Jardin Grow tent. Suprisingly enough, in part 2 we’re going to show you the second.
In part 1 the thing to look out for was making sure the poles where secure and square in the corner sockets. In part 2 it’s all about the zips. As I already mentioned they are of a high quality as is all the canvas on these grow tents, [I'll show you the stitching in another post] however if you miss treat them you’ll get into trouble.
Just remember, don’t force them, especially around any corners, and try to pull each side up to meet the other to prevent the all important light baffle from getting trapped – again, this can mostly happen on the bends if you aren’t careful.

Stage 11 -
Locate the top of your tent and place over the completed frame.
Stage 12 -
It should be a snug fit but not have to stretch. If it stretches, check the poles are fitted correctly.
Stage 13 -
Slide the cover down, and lay your tent on it’s side. Slip the bottom of the cover over and stand back upright.
Stage 14 -
Straighten the corners and sip up the sides of the tent. Be careful not to force the zips round the pole.
Stage 15 -
Pull two halves of the zip together when fastening. This will prevent strain and ensure the light baffle doesn’t get trapped.
Stage 16 -
Zip everything up, check the seams are all square with no stress.
Admire the funky logo ;o)
Stage 17 -
Place the spill tray into the base pushing up into the corners – attach the hook and loop stays around the poles above the connectors.

Stage 18 -
If you haven’t slide the support poles into the ceiling.
The lower pole has a longer clasp. Fit straps as desired.

Stage 19 -
You should be good to grow now.
Familiarise yourself with the Inlets, outlets, electrical ports and windows etc
Stage 20 -
Stand back and admire your grow tent.
Infact – climb in it and check the lightproofing…..
…..I know you want to! ;o)
